Why?	This book is an almost classic ecological report set as a key for UN Conference on Human Environment held at Stockholm in 1972. The term of "Planet of Earth" became popular from this book. We must tackle more seriously environmental problems towards 21st, considering the survival of human kind. The dinosaurs survived during 180 million years, while the cockroach is surviving more than 300 million years since Carboniferous period with little change of its appearance. Admittedly, the regenerative powers of life are astonishing. Living things have survived the glaciation, the volcanic convulsions, the earthquakes, typhoons and tidal waves that have torn though our unstable planet over the billennia. But the warning is there. Like the giant reptiles of the Jurassic period, some species have gone the 'way to dusty death'...... Behind the interrelationships lies the risk of unpredictable and sometimes destructive consequences if the delicate equilibrium is overturned. a new species introduced, a chemical balance upset, an island erupting into the sky, the slow onset of the ice - all such disturbances can elicit so violent a response that the system may not be capable of returning, by itself, to a desirable and stable system. The scientific method, employed now to decipher not the separation but the inter-connections of material things, can provide men with better, more reliable and wiser means of working with his environment. Nature has so many unstable, unpredictable and violent facets that man needs all his probing intelligence and enormous potentiality for understanding to enhance and stabilize its capricious bounties. In fact, in Goethe's retelling of the Faustian legend, the end is not torment but redemption - when Faust at last uses his powers not for aggrandizement but to drain a marsh and feed the people. If man continues to let his behavior be dominated by separation, antagonism and greed, he will destroy the delicate balances of his planetary environment.
